Getting to Joensuu

Joensuu has an airport (IATA code: JOE)  with several daily connections to Helsinki (Finnair) facilitating many one-stop connections between Joensuu and major European cities.

It is also possible to fly into Helsinki and then take a train from the airport train station to Joensuu (one change in Tikkurila, duration approximately 4.5 hours). There are approximately six trains a day and tickets can be booked at VR train tickets. The train station is close to the city centre (just cross the bridge over the River Pielisjoki).

Transportation from Joensuu airport to city centre

Bus transportation from Joensuu airport to the city center is available after every flight arriving from Helsinki. The bus waits for the passengers outside the terminal building (of course waiting for those collecting their luggage). The bus fare is 5 euro (credit cards are accepted but it is good to have cash on with you). Please note that there is no ATM at Joensuu airport. The bus stop in the city center is on Siltakatu street (by the marketplace).  is the closest one to Sokos Hotel Vaakuna, Hotel Greenstar and Hotel Aada (see Map). More detailed info, see Joensuu Transport Bus.

There are a number of suitable hotels within easy walking distance to the University:

There are also very nice holiday houses (63m2, up to 6 persons, bedroom, a kitchen and a loft, each apartment has its own sauna) available at Joensuu Linnunlahti Camping located at the shore of Lake Pyhäselkä. The area is within walking distance of the University and the city centre.
